In 1947, our parent company, AFBA emerged from the basement of the Pentagon* to solve a critical need in support of the military. More than 75 years later, our commitment remains core to everything we do. Founded to provide military members with a death benefit when no one else would, we continue to embrace our mission and deliver benefits tailored to the real-life needs of all who serve today, including those who work in our cities and towns in schools, grocery stores, medical centers, and other places that keep our communities vibrant. Providing protection to all those we serve, we ensure life insurance and other benefits are available to all, no matter what.
As a related enterprise to the non-profit AFBA, 5Star Life was founded in service and commitment to those who serve, from underwriting benefits for military and first responder families to providing coverage to the employees that keep our communities running.

Our parent company, AFBA was founded at a time when commercial companies would not pay life insurance benefits if a servicemember died in combat.

5Star Life Insurance Company was established to provide AFBA members coverage tailored to the unique needs of service life. Since then, 5Star Life has grown and evolved into other segments including the employer group and worksite benefits markets.

5Star Life takes over coverage for AFBA life insurance member benefits from prior carrier. Dedicated to a positive member experience.

We enter the worksite voluntary benefits market offering life insurance coverage to individuals and their families who make our communities thrive.

We added a Quality of Life rider to our life insurance product to help ensure stability for families in cases of permanent inability to perform activities of daily living, or permanent severe cognitive impairment.

Our accident and healthcare indemnity products were introduced to supplement existing coverage and provide protection for all of life’s unexpected turns.

We opened our Lincoln, Nebraska office that includes our Claims Ambassadors who help assist family members, beneficiaries, and our business partners navigate the claims process.
